How To Rid Your PC of Annoying Errors

Imagine that you have an important project deadline approaching and your computer starts displaying errors. You may not only lose important data, but your may also miss your deadline.

Computer errors, although annoying, can usually be fixed and prevented by performing a few simple repair tasks. Discussed below are a few simple methods that you can perform to rid your PC of annoying errors.

Fix Problems with Recently Installed Application

If an error message, such as the msvcrt.dll error appears, just it may be due to a recently installed program on your system. It is possible, that this new program has replaced one or more shared programs and DLL files with an older version. When this happens, your system may encounter compatibility issues when a program that needs to use the latest file version is unable to find it. For instance, if an error starts appearing soon after you installed McAfee Antivirus software, uninstall McAfee to try and resolve the errors.

You may also try to search for an update for the program that is causing the problem. If you are lucky enough to find one, you may update the program to resolve the error.

If no update is available, try to uninstall this new program and perform a system restore to revert your system files back to the time before you installed this new program.

You may also attempt to replace the DLL file that is generating the error with its new version. You can acquire the updated file from a reliable DLL directory on the Internet or copy it from a computer with a configuration similar to yours.

Note: Before replacing the existing DLL file, remember to make a backup of the already existing file(s).

Check Your Hardware For Problems

Errors, such as the ntdll.dll error, may occur if you have malfunctioning hardware on the system. To troubleshoot hardware problems, you may use a good PC diagnostics utility to check your hardware components and cables for errors.


You may also perform the following tasks to troubleshoot hardware related errors:

  • Ensure that all data and power cables within the computer are functional and not damaged.

  • Check that all hardware adaptors, connectors, and memory chips are properly seated in their slots.

  • Clean dust and other deposits from the components to prevent component overheating.

Update/Remove Faulty Device Drivers

You may encounter computer errors if your have buggy or outdated drivers on the system. To troubleshoot and resolve driver-related errors, you may perform the following tasks:

  • Use Device Manager to reinstall, update, or uninstall drivers that are generating errors.

  • Visit the device/driver manufacturers Web site to see if any driver update is available—if there is, download the update and install it on the system.

Fix Registry Errors

A large, bloated registry full of erroneous and obsolete entries may also generate computer errors. In more severe cases, registry errors may prevent your PC from even booting up normally. To prevent and repair registry problems, it is recommended that you use a reliable registry cleaner tool to scan and clean the registry on a regular basis.

Fix Problems With Windows XP Installation

At times, faulty programs and other computer problems may damage your operating system files. In this case, you may be forced to reinstall your Windows operating system to resolve the errors. If you have the Windows XP operating system, you may perform inplace or upgrade install of Windows XP to fix problems due to damaged and missing system files. If you still cannot repair your problems, you may have to perform a fresh install of the operating system.
