Adding Bluetooth-Enabled Devices to Windows Vista Computer

Post A Comment

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that provides wireless communications among computers, printers, mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras, and other digital electronic devices. You can connect as many as eight devices together with Bluetooth, with one device acting as the master device and up to seven slave devices. Here are a few initial steps to add several bluetooth devices with your MS Vista.

Install a Bluetooth mobile phone

Some Bluetooth mobile phones can connect to a computer to synchronize phone articles and transfer files. Some (but not all) mobile phones can also act as modems to connect to the Internet. Make sure that you read the documentation that came with the phone so that you understand how to make the phone discoverable, how to name the phone (if necessary), basic information on setting up a passkey, and whether or not you can use the phone as a modem. If your mobile phone can act as a modem, you’ll need a dial-up Internet account to connect to the Internet. Most likely this will be a mobile service provider. You’ll need to know your user name, password, carrier code or phone number, and other basic account information prior to setting up your Internet account. Only your Internet service provider (or mobile service provider) can give you that information. The exact procedure for installing a Bluetooth phone will vary from one phone to the next. But to get started, make sure that discovery and the ability to add new devices is enabled on your PC. Then, follow these steps:
Right-click the Bluetooth Device Notification area icon and choose Add a Bluetooth Device. Or, open the Bluetooth Devices dialog box from Control Panel or its notification icon, and click the Add button at the bottom of the Devices tab.
Follow the instructions presented by the wizard, and as specified by the mobile phone manufacturer.

If the phone you installed in the preceding steps can act as a modem, you can then proceed with the following steps to set up a Bluetooth connection to the Internet:

  • Open the Network and Sharing Center folder by clicking the Start button and choose Control Panel. If Control Panel opens in Category view, click Network and Internet. Open the Network and Sharing Center icon.

  • Click Set up a connection or network from the left column.

  • Select the option Set up a dial-up connection and then click Next.

  • If your computer sees the mobile phone connected via Bluetooth, it will prompt you for the information. When the information is filled out, click the Connect button to continue.

  • When you have successfully dialed your ISP, either click the link Browse the Internet now or click the Close button.

  • When your connection is configured, you should be able to get online by opening Network and Sharing Center from the Control Panel. Click Connect to a network link on the left side of the window.

Install a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse

To install a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse, you must first connect the device by cable, or use a cable-connected mouse or keyboard to provide the initial connectivity. Also, you must know how to make your mouse or keyboard discoverable (visible). If you’re not sure how to get started, refer to the instructions that came with the mouse or keyboard. If you’re installing a keyboard, check its documentation to see if the keyboard supports the use of a passkey. And if so, find out if it already has a pre-assigned passkey, or if you can use a passkey of your own choosing. Then, to perform the installation, follow these steps:

  • Right-click the Bluetooth Device Notification area icon and choose Add a Bluetooth Device. Or open the Bluetooth Devices applet from Control Panel or its notification icon, and click the Add button at the bottom of the Devices tab.

  • Choose My device is set up and ready to be found and click Next.

  • Click the discovered device’s name, and then click Next.

  • If you’re adding a keyboard, do one of the following as appropriate for your device:

  • To have Windows create a safe, random passkey, click Choose a passkey for me.

  • If your device has a predefined passkey, choose Use the passkey found in the documentation, and then type the passkey.

  •  If you want to create your own custom passkey, click Let me choose my own passkey, and then type a passkey.

  • If the device doesn’t support the use of passkeys, choose Don’t use a passkey.

  • Click Next and follow the remaining instructions presented by the wizard.

Windows Vista Error Fix:

Post A Comment

Error:"Windows Sidebar Is Managed By Your System Administrator"

If your Windows Vista is giving you this error and you are in fact the system administrator this fix may resolve the issue. What worked on my system was by opening the Windows Vista registry editor by clicking on the start menu and typing regedit.exe and press enter.

In the registry editor navigate to the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Microsoft --> Windows --> CurrentVersion --> Policies --> Windows --> Sidebar

If there is a value on the right hand side called TurnOffSidebar, delete it. (For me it was not there.)

Now navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER --> SOFTWARE --> Microsoft --> Windows --> CurrentVersion --> Policies --> Windows --> Sidebar

If there is a value on the right hand side called TurnOffSidebar, delete it.

Run the program sidebar.exe again.

Prevent User Logon Script From Running

Post A Comment

You may experience certain situations where you may want to prevent a computer from running a user logon script. This maybe caused by spywares or adwares, which runs this script on startup and totally messes up your system. The user logon script usually can be detected as a userinit.exe service running in the task manager.

The user logon script is started from the Userinit.exe process. The Userinit registry value describes the programs that are started by the Winlogon.exe process. The Winlogon.exe process retrieves the Userinit startup parameters from a registry entry inside the following Winlogon registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

The parameter that controls the user logon script is set in the UserInitLoginScript variable.

You don't have to know all those mumbo-jumob, but to prevent the system from running the user logon script, the UserInitLoginScript variable must be removed. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Notepad.

  • Copy and paste the following code into Notepad:

  • Save the text file as a program file by using the .cmd file name extension. For example, save it as DisableLogonScript.cmd

  • Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

  • Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

  • In the right pane, double-click Userinit.

  • In the Value data box, delete the userinit.exe entry, and then type the full path of the file that you created in step 3.

  • Click OK.

  • Exit Registry Editor.

Enjoy a user script free system running everytime you startup.

Well, here is a blog I found that turned out to be a very good read indeed. Innocentposts is a random blog which posts on different subjects every time. I checked out the archive and it returned some very interesting posts. The design of the blog is cool, which turns out to be a customized version of the popular Garland theme. The author writes about a whole wide variety of things, which includes poems, journals and more.

If you are blog hopping and have plenty of time at hand, this is a very good random blog to look through. The frequency of posts in the blog is pretty low, but the posts are very engaging none the less.

Stop First Run Page Load in IE7

Post A Comment

IE7: How to stop http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx from loading every time IE is started

I recently reinstalled my Internet Explorer 7 and since has been suffering from this nagging page load whenever I open IE7.

It's that msn page that is supposed to run only the first time you open IE7. Even after I complete the whole procedure and save the settings, IE7 makes it a point to load the msn settings page everytime I open it. So how do we fix it?

As always, a simple registry hack is the trick. Here is what you have to do:

  • Goto Start>Run> type in Regedit and hit enter

  • Navigate to the following Registry key :

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

  • There on the right window pane, edit the following registry keys to these values or create them if they don't exist.

    Key Name                    Key Type       Value
    “RunOnceComplete”=   dword:         00000001
    “RunOnceHasShown”= dword:         00000001

  • Click OK and exit the registry.

Done!! No more nagging page loads on opening IE7 again. Happy Browsing!.

Lasik facts

If you are a person spending 8-10 hours in front of a system on an average, you are sure to be wearing spectacles in a very short time. The strain on the eyes, especially by computer engineers, is so high that a medical survey conducted by St Hopkins University points out that over 60% of regular IT field engineers suffer from various eye related dysfunctions like myopia, astigmatism etc. Lasik or laser treatment of eye problems, have been in existence for over 10 years and lasik operations have been performed on millions over the years. Barring the initial apprehension about the safety concerns of the procedure, it has developed over the decade. Lasik now promises a 20/20 vision for the person on whom it is performed or better.

If you are undecided yet on whether to take the operation or not, here is some LASIK information to help you make up your mind. The operation is fast and painless and lasts little more than 2 hours. Some complications may arise out of a lasik operation like dry eye, which are on an average less than 1% and can be cured through medications over time. To protect your eyes in time, take the right step in time. Check more out about Lasik surgery and various details at the LASIK information webpage.

iTunes Account W/O Credit Card Info

This trick is for those who use itunes store from Apple and dont want/have to give credit card info.

Well, I have tried a multitude of times to download the free stuff from the itunes US store, but always it asks for a credit card and billing info. Why do they need a credit card for letting me download the free stuff?

At last, here is a solution for all of us who wanted to create an account to download the free stuff without any credit card infor needed. Follow these steps:

It Worked for me until today, August 1, 2008. It should work for you too.

  • Open iTunes. Then open iTunes Store.

  • On the right panel, you have the Quick Links Panel. Choose 'Redeem' from there.

  • Now enter any one of the following codes as the redeem code. Both of them have alread been used, but that isn't the point.

The second code worked for me, try any one of them. Click Redeem.

  • Now it will tell you that the code has already been redeemed, but don't worry click the 'Home' icon at the top to go back to main page. Now Click 'Sign in' from the top right corner.

  • In the window that pops up, click the 'create new account' option.

  • Enter your email details and click Continue button.

  • Now you will be taken to the payment information page and Voila!, you have the 'None' option along with the usual credit card options.

  • Enter any address information that is a valid US address. Just Google for it.
    an example is like -

    No 12, high street
    City Name- Irving
    State Name- Texas
    Zip code-75014

Google for more addresses. If you already in US, that wont be a problem ;), creating an address that is.

Now choose the 'None' option for payment and click next.

  • A window pops with an error message. IGNORE. Don't worry, click OK and go back to the Home page.

  • Now you can see that you are already signed in using the new account you have created. Look at the top right corner to see the result.

Start downloading all the free stuff straight away. I am already listening to katie armiger now.

Thanks goes toAfterlogs for bringing me this info. :)

Happy Downloading!.
