How To Dual Boot Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Post A Comment

Windows 7 beta is already out and you may want to try it out on your system. If you have downloaded Microsoft’s new generation operating system,Windows 7 and want to install it , its not suggested you to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7, rather you can Install Windows 7 on a Dual Boot with Windows Vista.Multi boot or Multi booting (usually dual booting, but many operating systems can be booted from the same computer) is the act of installing multiple operating systems on a computer, and being able to choose which one to boot when switching on the computer power. The program which makes multi booting possible is called a boot loader.

Here is how you can Install Windows 7 on a Dual Boot with Windows Vista :

In your Windows Vista computer, Go to Start in the Search Type in “Computer Management”, Expand the Storage section and select Disk Management.

  • Now you`ll need to Shrink the Hard Disk Drive Volume in Windows Vista, so select the Hard Disk of your choice, right-Click and select Shrink Volume.

  • After that a Window will pop-up asking you the space to shrink. Windows 7 requires 12GB of space to enter accordingly.

  • Now in the Disk Management Window , you`ll see two partition : One which Windows Vista is installed and other in unallocated. Right-Click on Unallocated and Select New Simple Volume.

  • Set the Volume Size and Click on Next. (Keep it same as the Maximum Disk Space above).

  • In the Next step you`ll be asked to enter the Drive letter, File System(NTFS) and the Volume. Enter as per your preference and you`ll be done. Close everything and Install Windows 7.

  • While Installing Windows 7 when you can asked to ” Where do you want to Install Windows?” select the drive you just created.
  • Finish up the installation and the PC restart and now you`ll be able to see Windows 7 and Windows Vista in the boot menu.

Now once Windows 7 is fully installed, you`ll see that you wont be able to access the Windows Vista Partition now because both the drive are named as C.To solve this issue do the following :

  • Go to Disk Management in Windows 7 (Same as that in Windows Vista).

  • Right Click on the Blank Entry ( Windows Vista Partition) and then select Change Drive letter and Paths.

  • Click on Add and then enter the letter you want to assign to that Partition.
Save it and your Problem must be Solved.

Done! You can safely dual boot windows 7 and vista. Happy tweaking!

Notepad ++

This post goes to our dear friend Gmj, who graced us with her visit here recently. Glad that you were here! :)

Notepad++ is a free source code editor and Notepad replacement that supports several languages. Running in the MS Windows environment, it works wonderfully for all amatuer as well as professional programmers to keep their work nice and neat.

I used it to arrange the code for some of my projects and it works wonderfully well. The program works amazingly well with a variety of programming languages and has a very fast engine. It has a tab style arrangement for editing of multiple documents easily and has a auto completion feature inbuilt as well.

The one process you may frequently use is the Program code Reindent feature that nicely alligns your code. It also has Brace and Indent guideline Highlighting- When the caret stay beside of one of those symbol { } [ ] ( ) , the symbol beside of caret and its symmetric opposite symbol will be highlighted, as well as the indent guideline (if any) in order to locate the block more easily.

You can also save several macros and edit their keyboard shorcuts for the next use.

So if you are an aspiring programmer or want to meddle with some codes, this is the software to use. I liked it very much and here it is:

Registry Mechanic 8

New version of the popular registry cleaning software.

With Registry Mechanic you can safely clean, repair and optimize the Windows® registry with a few simple mouse clicks! Problems with the Windows registry are a common cause of Windows crashes, slow performance and error messages. By using a registry cleaner regularly and fixing registry errors your system should not only be more stable but it will also help improve your system performance without expensive hardware upgrades.

It's easy to use and fixes all the common bugs in the registry with a very fast scan engine.

Registry Mechanic uses a high-performance detection algorithm that will quickly identify missing invalid references in the Windows registry. These problems can occur for many reasons including being left-behind after the un-installation or incorrect removal of software, by missing or corrupt hardware drivers, or orphaned startup programs.

With a few easy steps Registry Mechanic will scan your entire registry for any invalid entries and provides a list of the registry errors found, you can then choose to selectively clean each item or automatically repair them all. For your convenience and protection Registry Mechanic can also make a backup of any repairs made so that you can easily recover any changes if required.

So what are you waiting for?

Happy NewYear 2009!

Post A Comment

First of all, Very warm NewYear wishes to all our wonderful readers. Though, for Livewares, the start of 2009 is quite damp at present. You may have noticed that the direct links to all our softwares not uploaded at rapidshare is not working anymore. We apologize deeply for the inconvenience, but it seems that there is a slight problem with our uploaded. Be reassured that it will all be sorted out by the weekend and all the uploads will be up and running, hopefully. ;) . It's just that we can no longer share all those credible keys and serials which are abundantly available in various forums.

Well, for all that fuss, we will have it cleared up in no time. And again, thanks goes to all of you for supporting us with your comments and keeping Livewares very much alive. Here is another trick for all of you.

Shrink Your Vista Partition

Here is another useful tweak for Windows vista users to shrink your Drive partitions.

If you have created one or more partitions on your hard drive and a few months later you think "maybe this partition has to be a bit smaller", it is possible in Vista to shrink them. You can do this even with a 'system partition'.

  • Click with your right mouse button on 'Computer' and then click 'manage'. You will get a screen like the one below:

  • In this screen you click in the left pane on 'Disk Management' below 'Storage'. You will get a screen as shown below.

  • Now you see all your partitions which you have created. To shrink a partition you simple right click on the partition and in the menu which appears you click 'Shrink Volume'.You will get a window like the one shown below:

  • Here you can enter the amount of space to shrink in MB.

Easy, right? No more trouble as in XP. If there is empty space available behind the partition there is also the possibility to extend the the partition using the option 'Extend Volume'.

However, there is one thing you can not do. You can not move a partition or extend it with an empty space which is in front of a partition.

Hope you are all enjoying 2009 and Keep visiting fellas!
